Your kindness can help transform lives

Across rural Nepal, hundreds of thousands of children are attending school in dilapidated classrooms where they are taught by untrained and poorly motivated teachers. They have little chance of gaining the education that they deserve.

First Steps Himalaya works through its local partner on the ground to bring about long lasting changes to classrooms and the standard of teaching inside them.

One of the most effective ways of making a long-term impact in Nepal is by joining our Friends of First Steps Himalaya programme.

It’s easy to join.

You choose your level of support and gift monthly. If you want to leave the group at any time, this is easy too.

You will be joining our community of passionate change-makers from around the world who are investing in improving early-years education for children in rural Nepal.

Let’s give children the education they deserve.

Why become a Friend?

As a Friend of First Steps Himalaya you will receive colourful updates showing the improvements in our project schools and Early Learning centres across rural Nepal, twice a year. These are illustrated with plenty of photos so you can clearly see how your valuable contribution has helped.

Giving small amounts each month is so important for long-term projects. It allows our team to be able to budget and plan for the months and years ahead.

If you are in New Zealand, your donations are tax deductible, meaning you can claim back 33.33 cents for every dollar you gift throughout the year.

Additionally, as a Friend of First Steps Himalaya, we would love for you to visit our projects to see for yourself the impact we are making together. We organise exclusive project tours with our Nepali Director. We will resume these as soon as global travel is safe.

How does your regular gift contribute?

Donations from our Friends of First Steps Himalaya help us run our education projects in rural Nepal. We work directly with schools and communities to bring about long-term sustainable change. This is what we do with your support:

  • Train teachers in contemporary, child-friendly teaching methods

  • Refurbishment classrooms

  • Supply teaching and learning resources such as story books, building blocks and craft materials

  • Provide regular supervision and teacher support in our project schools

  • Educate parents to build community resilience

Children in our project schools benefit from a high standard of early childhood education and school support. Young children are better prepared for school, and will be far more likely to complete their education. You can read more about why quality education is so important here.
